SMALL GROUP TRAINING
At the 2013 Year End Workers’ Meeting of the Guyana Conference, the largest field in the Caribbean Union, pastors was given the Biblical rationale, methodology and resources for Small Group Evangelism. This year President Avert James reported that there are over 250 small groups meeting in the country, with an attendance of more than 2,300 members and guests.
“FAMILY OF GOD” CAMPAIGN MANUAL
Feeling the need for a new series of sermons to empower Lay Preachers to conduct evangelistic campaigns at the end of each cycle of Small Group meetings, the Guyana Conference commissioned Pastor Martinborough to produce a new Manual containing the sermons and strategies for a three-week evangelistic campaign. In addition to this Family of God Manual, a CD with the Power Point presentations for all sixteen sermons has been completed and presented to the Conference for publication.
Pastor Ashton O’Neil, Personal Ministries Director of the Caribbean Union, has also decided to use this valuable resource for the Lay Preachers of the Caribbean Union. He said, “Thanks for the material sent. It will be used by us in the Caribbean territory for the over 300 reaping crusades scheduled for March2015, when we conclude the first phase of our Small Group sowing.”
MORRIS PARK CAMPAIGN
At the persistent request of Pastor Billwayne Jamel, a three-week Family Life campaign was conducted for the Morris Park Church, New York, during the month of May. The Lord blessed us with five baptisms. Among them were Rosenda Lowe and his wife Sheryl, who had been staunch members of the Pentecostal Church. He never missed a night of the campaign, and they are now rejoicing in their newfound faith.
NORTH ORLANDO FAMILY DAY
Under the leadership of Sister Garnett McKenzie, Family Ministries Director of the North Orlando SDA Church, this annual event was held on Sabbath, August 9. The Worship Service seminar conducted by Pastor and Mrs. Martinborough was entitled, “How to forgive when you cannot forget.” In the afternoon, there were four breakout sessions. The men’s group was directed by Dr. Dolphy Cross, Family Ministries Director of Southeastern Conference, while the women’s session was conducted by Dr. Leonie Smith. The youth session was done by Counselor Lascell Philips, and the children group by Dr. Cynthia Sheppy. Many of the almost 200 participants expressed appreciation for what they learnt.
NEW HEALTH EVANGELISM SERIES: FIELD TESTING
The draft of the brand new Health Evangelism series has been completed. This innovative series takes a syllabus of 18 vital health issues and marries each issue with a compatible Bible doctrine. The series covers such issues as heart disease, cancer and obesity, as well as such preventative concepts of diet, exercise and temperance. The goal is to equip pastors, evangelists and health educators with tools to do integrated Health Evangelism. These include eight-page study guides and the companion CD with the 18 Power Point presentations.
The series was field tested at the Mt. Zion Church in Kissimmee, Florida, in the month of March, and was hosted by the pastor, Dr. Lewis Edwards. Some members testified to lifestyle changed that they experienced. And although it was not a full-blown evangelistic effort, five persons were baptized. Another field test will be done by Pastor Colin Parkinson in Allegheny West in the Fall of this year.
PILOT: NEW TV SERIES
In addition to the study guides and companion CD, the plan is to record the presentations as 18 episodes for use on television. They will also be available on DVDs. The TV pilot episode has just been recorded in the studios of Seminars Unlimited in Keene, Texas. This pilot is entitled, Five Steps to Prevent a Heart Attack. And the special guest was cardiologist Dr. Schubert Palmer, who is chair of the Cardiology Section of White Memorial Hospital in Southern California. Please pray for the success of this project.
